Tuesday Morning Prayer Shawl Ladies

Every Tuesday  morning a group of wonderful women gather here at the Coffee Shop to crochet and knit prayer shawls.  They come from all walks of life, different church denominations and ethnic backgrounds.  Their one desire is to hep someone who is suffering, whether it is physical or spiritual.  The ladies pick out a shawl, pray over the shawl about the person they are giving the shawl to, and then make sure the shawl gets to the intended person.  They are a great group of women -- always looking for more helpers.

September 2011 Java Jam

We had an absolutely wonderful time last night at the Java jam.  Valerie Ryals is a great fiddle player.  We had some surprise guests in the last hour -- Mike Blakely, Snake eyes, and a bass player whose name I have forgotten (sorry).  Put those three together with Mickey Reynolds, Doc Blakely, Bill Havins, Mary, Ron Sanders, John Percel and you have an hour of your life that is indescribable!!  The house was full, the food was out of this world and everyone left with a big smile on their face.  Thanks so much to all who came.

Sepember 2011 Java Jam

The next Java Jam will be Friday, September 23, featuring Valerie O'Brien, as pretty a fiddle champion as you'd ever hope to compete against...and lose. Valerie started violin lessons at age nine, learned her first Texas-style fiddle tunes by eleven, and won the Junior World Championship at thirteen. Like everyone in her family, she became an accomplished musician on several instruments.  As a child, Valerie's parents took her to the Seminary South Shopping Center in Fort Worth to hear Eck Robertson who is credited with making the first country music recording back in 1923. The tradition lives on at Valerie's Music Studio in Burleson, Texas, where her two daughters - Jennifer and Julie, her sister - Lydia Stuart, and her husband - Rich O'Brien also teach. Together they offer Texas Oldtime Fiddling, guitar, bass, piano, mandolin, and banjo instruction to students from all over Texas.
